Las Robertas

This week the Costa Rican band Las Robertas released their new single "The Feel". I have been following this band for a long time now and made a good cyber-friendship with singer and guitarist Mercedes Oller, whom I had the opportunity to interview.

The band which also consist of Monserrat Vargas (bass and vocals) and Fabrizio Durán (Drums) are heading to Austin Psych Fest Levitation this May 9th and then Festival Marvin at Mexico City on May 16th.

How this musical project was born?

The project started in 2009, I recruited Monse and we started the band together, then we went looking for members and today we are with Fabrizio, one of our best friends.

What are your biggest musical influences?

Our genre would definitely be a mix of punk, soul, 60s girl bands, C86 and some 90s alternative. Also a big influence for us is Velvet Underground, Ramones, Wipers, The Breeders, Shop Assistants, The Ronettes and many more!

What festivals would like to play?

We would like to play at the Primavera Sound again which was one of the best experiences in our lives! as well Nrmal. Other festivals would be Austin Psychfest, Bruise Cruise, Fun Fun Fest and so on. Playing at Iceland or Australia would be epic too!

In 2012 you performed at El Independiente vol. I at La Respuesta, Santurce. What did you guys liked the most of the island?

We loved Puerto Rico! amazing people, we felt as family and they made us feel at home, the response and support was great, and of course we loved to go back, to play and to visit all the friends we made on our visit and who we already knew before.

¿Como nace el proyecto musical?

El proyecto nace en el 2009, yo recluté a Monse y empezamos la banda juntas, luego fuimos buscando integrantes y hoy en día estamos nosotras con Fabrizio, uno de nuestros mejores amigos.

¿Cuales son sus mayores influencias musicales?

De género definitivamente sería una gran mezcla desde el punk, soul, girl bands de los 60s, C86 y un poco del alternativo de los 90s, bandas que nos gustan y son influencia grande para nosotros serían Velvet Underground, Ramones, Wipers, The Breeders, Shop Assistants, The Ronettes y muchas otras más!

¿En que festivales les gustaría tocar?

Nos gustaría volver a tocar el Primavera Sound fue una de las mejores experiencias en nuestras vidas!, también el NRMAL. Festivales fantasía serían el Austin Psychfest, Bruise Cruise, Fun Fun Fest y así. Alguno en Islandia o Australia sería épico también!

En 2012 se presentaron en El Independiente vol. I en La Respuesta, Santurce ¿Que fue lo más que les gustó de la isla?

Nos encantó Puerto Rico! su gente increíble, ya nos sentíamos en familia y nos hicieron sentir como si fuera nuestra casa, la respuesta y el apoyo del público fue genial y por supuesto que nos encantaría regresar, a tocar y a visitar a todas las amistades que hicimos en nuestra visita y que ya teníamos desde antes.
